       - Venue: University of Technologie of Tarbes (UTTOP), 47 Avenue d'Azereix, 65000 Tarbes, France;
       - Registration fee: 200€ for students (undergrad, Master, Phd, Postdoc) and 250€ for non-students (staffs from companies; assistant/associate professors/researchers and professors from Universitees).

Motivation and objectives

Smart materials are materials that exhibit inherent properties change when subjected to external stimuli. Piezoelectric materials are among the most used smart materials at diverse applications, from daily life to specialized ones. They can be used as actuators, as sensors, or as energy harvesters. Hence, they are found in smart materials based mechatronic systems.

The purpose of this winter school is to introduce to piezoelectric mechatronic systems, from understanding the piezoelectricity principles to advanced modeling of certain systems. The last part of the school will be devoted to introduction to their control. Various applications examples will be presented as well. The winter school encompasses lectures and tutorials. The last day will be devoted to social event.

This Winter school is mainly devoted to young and junior researchers (MSc and PhD students, postdoctoral fellows) who work on smart materials based systems or who would like to discover the fields. It is also opened to engineers and researchers who would like to discover those systems.

List of topics

The school comprises:

- lectures,
- exercices,
- and tutorials.

The lectures topics include:

- understanding piezoelectricity and related phenomena,
- modeling piezoelectric systems: from constitutive equations to nonlinear and dynamical models,
- control,
- measurements based on piezoelectric systems.

Certificate of attendance

A certificate of attendance to the Winter School will be given, for instance for doctoral schools courses validation in the case of PhD students.

To attend the winter school

The registration fee to attend the Winter School is: 200€ for students (undergrad, Master, Phd, Postdoc) and 250€ for non-students (staffs from companies; assistant/associate professors/researchers and professors from Universitees). It encompasses: lunches during 5 days (Monday to Friday), coffee breaks (morning, afternoon), printed documents, data for tutorials, and social event of Friday. Accomodation and transportation are not included in the registration fee. We provide list of hotels and accomodation at the link: Practical Info.
